Training Games

Forehand Tramlines

This is one of the best games to play, with the ball easily binding on the side wall it is not as easy as it seems, the small target area will teach you patients and control and the value of the ball being on the side wall.

  • Serve down the wall from the front yellow area
  • You cannot win a point on the serve
  • Every shot must land in the Yellow target zone or the point is lost
  • As there are no lines the striker should only stop the rally if they are sure the ball is out
  • If the ball was out and played the rally continues
  • Any disputes result in a "Let"
  • "Strokes" are almost non existent as the front wall hitting area is so small making it easy to clear
  • Hit as hard as you like
  • All other rules of Squash apply
  • Every rally scores one point
  • First to 11 wins
  • Use Training Games to learn not just to win

You will find yourself continually in the same position, experiment annd evaluate the outcome, as this is in a competitive situation your potential to improve your stroke play rather than your fitness is amplified.

  • Be patient, don't go for too much
  • Control is much better than power
  • Hit from a balanced position with full body control
  • Have a clear understanding of your Targets
  • Sometimes the easiest way to win is to cut out errors
  • Learn about shot selection - choose which balls to attack off
  • Respect your opponents quality shots by not attacking them but driving to target
  • Be agressive with control on loose shots
  • Have fun
